Stewed Fish with Tofu: A Nutritious and Economical Option

  1 crucian carp (about 500g), 3 pieces of tofu, 2 garlic leaves, a little bit of small chili pepper, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and chicken essence

Prepare the ingredients: Clean the crucian carp, which should weigh around 400g to 500g; cut the tofu into 3 small pieces, or one large piece according to personal preference (usually fish stewed with tofu tastes better). Slice the ginger into thin strips and cut the garlic leaves into sections. Set aside.

  2. Pan-fry the fish: After cleaning the fish, pan-fry it over low heat until both sides turn golden brown. Use more oil to prevent it from sticking to the pan.

  3. After pan-frying the fish, pour out the oil, leaving only a small amount. Add a bowl of water (enough to cover the fish), bring it to a boil, and add salt, vinegar, small chili pepper, and ginger slices. Add the diced tofu. After 10 minutes, when the soup turns white, sprinkle the garlic leaves on top, add a little chicken essence, and remove from heat.
