  Nv Wan, a Chinese herbal medicine, refers to the root or whole herb of the chrysanthemum plant Nv Wan. It has the effects of warming the lungs, resolving phlegm, and promoting diuresis. It is mainly used for treating cough, asthma, intestinal rumbling, diarrhea, and dysuria.


[Properties and Channels]

  Pungent and warm in nature. It enters the lung, kidney, and spleen channels.

  ① "Ben Jing": Pungent and warm in nature.

  ② "Bie Lu": Non-toxic.

[Functions and Indications]

  Nv Wan has the effects of warming the lungs, resolving phlegm, and promoting diuresis. It is mainly used for treating cough, asthma, intestinal rumbling, diarrhea, and dysuria.

  1. "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing": It is used for wind-cold washing, dysentery, intestinal rumbling, epilepsy, and various cold and heat disorders.

  2. "Ming Yi Bie Lu": It treats lung injury, cough and counterflow, excessive sweating, persistent cold in the bladder, fullness in the urinary bladder, and symptoms aggravated by drinking alcohol and eating at night.

  3. "Hunan Pharmacopoeia": It warms the lungs, eliminates qi, stops cough, resolves phlegm, and promotes diuresis.

  4. "Ben Cao Zheng Yi": The efficacy of Nv Wan is similar to that of Zi Wan. Zhang Shanlei said, "Bai Wan is called Nv Wan by ancient people. Its leaves are pungent and warm, and it is used for wind-cold washing, dysentery, intestinal rumbling, epilepsy, and cold and heat disorders. 'Bie Lu' treats lung injury, cough and counterflow, and fullness in the urinary bladder. Considering its efficacy, it is also a product that promotes excretion and smoothness, and there is not much difference from Zi Wan."

[Dosage and Administration]

  Oral administration: Decoction, 9-15 grams.

[Prescription Applications]

  1. Treatment of cough and asthma: Nv Wan 5 qian, Jin Xian Diao Bai Mi 3 qian, Lu Bian Jing 5 qian. Decoction and take orally.

  2. Treatment of intestinal rumbling and diarrhea: Nv Wan 5 qian, Chen Pi 2 qian, Chang Pu 2 qian. Decoction and take orally.

  3. Treatment of dysuria: Nv Wan 5 qian, Che Qian Cao 5 qian. Decoction and take orally. (Prescription from Hunan Pharmacopoeia)

  4. Treatment of urinary calculi toxicity: Nv Wan 1 liang. Grind the herb into powder. Take 2 qian with water, decoct for 7 minutes, and take it warm regardless of the time. ("Sheng Ji Zong Lu")

[Precautions]

  "Ben Cao Jing Ji Zhu": It is averse to salty foods.
