Managing Weak Spleen and Stomach: Clinical Manifestations and Traditional Recipes

Clinical manifestations of weak spleen and stomach type intestinal dysfunction:

The stool is loose or watery, the food and water are not properly digested, and the frequency of bowel movements increases when consuming greasy food. There is poor appetite, fullness and bloating in the abdomen, pale complexion, fatigue, pale tongue, and weak pulse.

Schisandra and Rice Porridge

Ingredients: 10g Schisandra, 20 dates, 250g glutinous rice, 50g white sugar.

Method: Soak the Schisandra and dates in water and cook for half an hour. Remove and set aside the soup. Steam the glutinous rice, place the dates on top, then boil the soup with white sugar to make a sticky sauce. Pour it over the date rice.

Effect: Tonify qi, invigorate spleen and stomach.

Usage: Consume as a main course.

Strengthening Spleen Cakes

Ingredients: 30g Atractylodes, 6g dried ginger, 250g red dates, 15g chicken inner gold powder, 500g flour.

Method: Wrap the Atractylodes and dried ginger in gauze, boil them with red dates for an hour, remove the medicine bag, continue to simmer the dates, and press the dates into a paste after cooling. Mix the paste with chicken inner gold powder and flour, add an appropriate amount of water, and make cakes using the usual method.

Effect: Invigorate spleen and warm the middle.

Usage: Can be eaten as a snack or for breakfast and dinner.

Lamb and Barley Noodles

Ingredients: 1000g lamb, 5g Fructus Amomi, 10g fresh ginger, 1000g barley flour, 1000g bean flour.

Method: Cut the lamb into pieces, cut Fructus Amomi open, smash the ginger, put them all in a pot with an appropriate amount of water, and simmer the soup. Mix barley flour and bean flour with water to make noodles using the usual method. After the lamb is cooked, add the barley and bean flour noodles, cook until done, and season.

Effect: Warm the middle and dispel cold.

Usage: Can be eaten as a side dish or as a main course. Do not consume too much at one time to avoid bloating.

Schisandra and Yellow Rice Tea

Ingredients: 25g Schisandra, 50g scorched rice.

Method: Cook Schisandra and scorched rice with 1000ml of water until it reduces to 500ml.

Effect: Tonify the middle and invigorate qi, relieve restlessness and stop diarrhea.

Usage: Drink once every other day as a substitute for tea.

Five Spice Roast Goose

Ingredients: 750g fatty goose meat, 6g dried ginger, 3g Fructus Evodiae, 3g cardamom, 2g cinnamon, 1g clove.

Method: Cut the goose meat into pieces, grind the dried ginger, Fructus Evodiae, cardamom, cinnamon, and clove into a fine powder, mix with the goose meat, and marinate with soy sauce, yellow wine, sugar, salt, and MSG for 2-3 hours. Put the marinated goose pieces in the oven, roast over low heat for about 15 minutes, turn them over, and roast for another 15 minutes. Once cooked, it is ready to eat.

Effect: Warmly tonify the spleen and kidney, firm up and prevent diarrhea.

Usage: Serve as a side dish.

Corn, Chinese Yam, and Red Date Congee

Ingredients: 30g corn, 15g Chinese yam, 5 red dates.

Method: Cook all the ingredients together with an appropriate amount of water to make congee.

Effect: Invigorate spleen and stomach.

Usage: Can be eaten for breakfast and dinner.
