The Benefits of Bai Fuzi: Dispelling Wind, Detoxifying, and Beauty

February 26, 2024

Bai Fuzi is a highly medicinal Chinese herb that can be used to dispel wind and phlegm, detoxify and disperse masses. In addition, when Bai Fuzi is combined with honey, it also has the effect of beauty and skincare. Let's take a closer look at the benefits of Bai Fuzi!

1. Drying dampness and transforming phlegm

Bai Fuzi has a warm and pungent nature, mainly used for cold phlegm and dampness. For example, in cases of phlegm-fluid and cold invasion of the lungs, resulting in symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and abundant clear phlegm, Bai Fuzi can be combined with dried ginger and Xixin to warm the lungs, dry dampness, and dispel phlegm.

2. Dispelling wind and stopping spasms

It is mainly used to treat symptoms such as facial paralysis, limb weakness, limb spasms, dizziness, and vertigo caused by stroke. If there is phlegm-fluid combined with stroke, known as wind-phlegm syndrome, Bai Fuzi has a better therapeutic effect.

3. Beauty and skincare

Applying Bai Fuzi and honey can improve skin problems such as pigmentation, acne, and melanin deposition. Bai Fuzi is one of the ingredients in the traditional Chinese medicine face mask "Qi Bai San".

4. Detoxification and dispersing masses

It is mainly used to treat lymphadenopathy. Lymphadenopathy is a disease characterized by the growth of various-sized nodules in the neck, similar to what we now call lymphadenitis. Bai Fuzi can disperse the nodules, and pharmacological research has also found that Bai Fuzi has an anti-tuberculosis effect second only to streptomycin. Therefore, Bai Fuzi can be used to treat lymphadenopathy as it can both transform phlegm and disperse masses.

Notes

Bai Fuzi is a toxic herb, mainly manifested in its strong irritant effect on the skin and mucous membranes. Therefore, when using Bai Fuzi for external application or using self-made Qi Bai San, it is necessary to first test a small amount on the skin to see if there is any discomfort. If there are no obvious adverse reactions, it can be used. However, long-term use should be avoided.

When taken internally, it should also be taken in small amounts, and the dosage should be controlled within the range of 3-6 grams when decocting. Of course, due to its toxicity, Bai Fuzi should not be used by pregnant women.
