Artemisia capillaris is a perennial herbaceous plant, 30-100cm tall. It has a short rhizome. The stem is erect with longitudinal grooves and is densely covered with soft hairs above the middle, with branches and infertile branches often found in the leaf axils.

The leaves are opposite, sessile, linear in shape, 4-6.5cm long, 1-2cm wide, pinnately lobed on both sides, with a leaf axis about 1.5mm wide, entire or with 1-2 small teeth, oblanceolate in shape, with cartilaginous small tips on the lobes and teeth, sparsely hairy on the upper surface, and densely hairy on the lower surface with glandular dots.

The head-like inflorescences are numerous, containing compound umbels of flowers; the involucre is broadly bell-shaped or hemispherical, 4-6mm in diameter; the involucral bracts are arranged in a tile-like manner, with the outer layer being short, ovate-lanceolate in shape, with a midrib, membranous edges, brown, fringed with soft hairs; the receptacle is boat-shaped, with a thalloid shape;

The marginal florets are female, 6-16 in number, with white or pale pink petals, 3 shallow teeth at the apex, and the central and bisexual florets are pale yellow or white, with a compressed tube and glandular dots. The fruit is elongated and wedge-shaped, 2.5mm long, with wings and no pappus. The flowering and fruiting period is from July to September.
