Medicinal Compatibility of Di Yu

1. Combined with Cang Zhu to dry dampness, clear heat, cool blood, stop bleeding, mainly used for spleen damp-heat, dysentery with bloody stools.

2. Combined with Huai Jiao, it cools blood and stops bleeding. Combined with Qian Cao, it cools blood and stops bleeding, and treats bleeding caused by lower jiao damp-heat.

3. Combined with Wu Mei, it cools blood and astringes the intestines. Combined with Huang Bai, it cools blood and dries dampness.

4. Combined with Jin Yin Hua, it has a stronger effect of cooling blood and stopping bleeding.

Usage and Dosage of Di Yu

Internal use: Decoction, 6-15g; fresh product, 30-120g; or made into pills or powder, can also be juiced for internal use.

External use: Appropriate amount, boil in water or crush for external application; can also be ground into powder or mashed for external application.

Contraindications of Di Yu

Avoid use in those with deficiency-cold syndrome.

1. "Ben Cao Jing Ji Zhu": It can be used with Fa Liang but not with Mai Men Dong.

2. "Ben Cao Yan Yi": It should not be used in people with deficiency-cold and diarrhea or white dysentery.

3. "Yi Xue Ru Men": It should not be used in those with deficiency-cold and cold dysentery, as it may cause astringency too early.

4. "Ben Cao Jing Shu": It is forbidden to use it in cases of deficiency-cold and diarrhea after childbirth, and spleen deficiency and diarrhea with bleeding.

5. "Ben Cao Hui Yan": It is not suitable for long-term use in patients with abscesses and chronic diseases without fire, and those with decline of yang and blood stasis.

6. "Ben Jing Feng Yuan": It is also forbidden to use it in cases of sinking of qi and bleeding from the belt, and long-term dysentery with pus and blood that is not fresh. It can harm the stomach and excessive ingestion may cause mouth stiffness and loss of appetite.
