Liu Jinu is a traditional Chinese medicine that disperses stasis and relieves pain. It is the whole herb of the Asteraceae plant Artemisia argyi, mainly produced in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and other places. It has the effects of promoting blood circulation, regulating menstruation, and resolving food stagnation. It can be used to treat symptoms such as toothache, chronic bronchitis, and pharyngitis.
1. Treatment of carbuncles and furuncles
Grind Liu Jinu into powder, then use glutinous rice water to clean the affected area, and apply the medicine powder on it. It will not be painful and leave no scars. In case of injuries, first mix salt powder with it, protect the flesh from decay, and then apply the medicine. ("Ben Shi Fang")
2. Treatment of dysentery
Mix Liu Jinu, black plum, and white ginger in equal amounts. Decoct them in water and take it orally. Add black plum for red dysentery and white ginger for white dysentery. ("Ru Yi Fang")
3. Treatment of postpartum blood stasis
Mix Liu Jinu and licorice in equal amounts, grind them into powder. Take five qian (about 15 grams) of the powder, add two cups of water, and simmer until one cup of liquid is left. Then add one cup of wine and simmer until one cup of liquid is left. Remove the residue and take it warm. ("Sheng Ji Zong Lu" Liu Jinu Tang)
4. Treatment of blood stasis in the abdomen
Mix Liu Jinu, Corydalis yanhusuo, and Psoralea corylifolia in equal amounts. Finely chop the three ingredients, add two liters of water, simmer until seven grams of liquid is left. Then add one gram of wine and urine each, heat it up and take it in one go. ("Qian Jin Fang")
5. Healing wounds
Grind Liu Jinu into powder and apply it to the wound. ("Ben Shi Fang" Liu Jinu San)
6. Treatment of sprains and bruises
Take 15-24 grams of Liu Jinu, add half Huangjiu (yellow wine) or half wine and half water, stew for one hour, and take it warm twice a day.
