"Bu Lung Ajiao Soup" is the name of a traditional Chinese herbal formula. It is mentioned in the book "Xiao Er Yao Zhen Zhi Jue" and is known for its effects in nourishing yin, tonifying the lungs, and stopping coughs and bleeding. It is mainly used for the treatment of lung deficiency with heat symptoms. The typical symptoms include coughing, wheezing, dryness and soreness of the throat, scanty sputum, or sputum with blood, red tongue with little coating, and thin and rapid pulse.

【Composition】

Ajiao 9g, Niubangzi 3g, Zhigancao 3g, Madouling 6g, Xingren 6g, Nuomi 6g.

【Introduction to Medicinal Herbs】

Ajiao: It nourishes blood and yin, moisturizes dryness, and stops bleeding. It is used for conditions such as blood deficiency, yellowing complexion, dizziness, palpitations, restlessness, and dry cough due to lung dryness.

Niubangzi: It has the effects of dispersing wind-heat, opening the lungs and promoting rashes, relieving throat and dispersing nodules, detoxifying, and reducing swelling. It belongs to the category of dispersing wind-heat herbs that relieve the surface.

Zhigancao: It harmonizes the middle, relieves urgency, moistens the lungs, detoxifies, and harmonizes various herbs. It is commonly used for conditions such as weak spleen and stomach, fatigue, palpitations, pulse irregularities, and can counteract the toxicity of Fuzi (aconite).

Madouling: It has the effects of clearing the lungs and descending Qi, stopping coughs and calming wheezing, and clearing and purging the large intestine. It is used for conditions such as lung heat cough, sputum stagnation and rapid breathing, chronic cough due to lung deficiency, hot intestines with hemorrhoids and bleeding, swollen and painful hemorrhoids, and edema.

Nuomi: It has the effects of tonifying the middle, benefiting Qi, invigorating the spleen, nourishing the stomach, and stopping spontaneous sweating. It has a certain relieving effect on poor appetite, abdominal distention, and diarrhea.

【Clinical Application】

1. This formula is not only used for pediatric lung yin deficiency and coughing and wheezing caused by yin deficiency with heat, but can also be used in adults. The key symptoms for treatment are coughing, wheezing, dryness of the throat, red tongue with little coating, and a floating and thin pulse.

2. Modification: If the dryness and dry mouth are severe, and the tongue is red with little saliva, add Shashen and Maidong to enhance the nourishing yin and moisturizing the lungs. If there is throat pain, add Jiegeng and Xuanshen to ventilate the lungs and relieve the throat. If there is a large amount of hemoptysis, add Bai Maogen, Xianhecao, and Shengdi to cool the blood and stop bleeding.

3. Patients with chronic bronchitis and bronchiectasis with hemoptysis due to yin deficiency with heat can all take this formula.
