Formulas and Uses of Red Flower in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Red flower is a relatively common traditional Chinese medicine in our lives. It is often used in formulas for promoting blood circulation, relieving pain, and detoxification. Below, I will introduce some formulas related to red flower.


1. Treatment for bloating caused by blood stagnation:

Liu Jinu (red thread flower) is ground into powder. Take three qian (about 9 grams) and decoct it with wine before consumption. (From "Simplified Prescriptions for Health Maintenance")

2. Treatment for postpartum lochia retention, abdominal pain, fever, aversion to cold, dry throat, and thirst:

Liu Jinu (red thread flower) and Zhi Mu (an herb) each weigh one liang (about 30 grams), Dang Gui (Chinese angelica root) and Gui Jian Yu (arrowhead vine) each weigh two liang (about 60 grams), and Tao Ren (peach kernel) (peeled, pointed, and stir-fried) weighs one and a half liang (about 45 grams). Grind these five ingredients into coarse powder. Take four qian (about 12 grams) each time, add one and a half cups of water, decoct it until there is one cup left, remove the dregs, and consume it warm on an empty stomach before meals. 3. Treatment for various postpartum ailments related to blood circulation:

Liu Jinu (red thread flower) and Gan Cao (licorice root) are mixed in equal parts, finely chopped to the size of a mung bean. Take five qian (about 15 grams) each time, first add two cups of water, decoct until there is one cup left, then add one cup of wine, decoct until there is one cup left again, remove the dregs, and consume it warm. 4. Treatment for injuries with blood stasis in the abdomen:

Liu Jinu (red thread flower), Yan Hu Suo (corydalis rhizome), and Gu Sui Bu (drynaria) each weigh one liang (about 30 grams). Finely chop these three ingredients, add two liters of water, decoct until there is 210 milliliters left, then add one more liang of wine and urine, heat it, and consume it warm. 5. Treatment for wounds, pain relief:
