Daye Yao is the whole herb or root of the plant Daye Yao in the family Rubiaceae. It is mainly distributed in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Yunnan, and other regions in China. It has the effects of clearing heat, detoxifying, and diuresis. It is commonly used for pneumonia, empyema, sore throat, oral ulcers, bladder stones, and abscesses.

Identification of Daye Yao
Daye Yao has opposite or alternate leaves, ovate to ovate-oblong, 3-8 cm long, slightly hairy, with short or gradually pointed tips, and the base extends down to the petiole.
The spike-like inflorescence is terminal or opposite to the leaves, 3-10 cm long, curved, with all the flowers on one side of the main axis, and the lowest ones opening first; the calyx is green, 5-lobed;
The corolla is light blue or nearly white, tubular, glabrous at the throat, with 5 expanded lobes, about 5 mm long and 3-3.5 mm in diameter; 5 stamens hidden inside;
The style is terminal, with a flattened conical disc at the top. The fruit is 4-5 mm long and composed of 2 ovoid achenes.

Medicinal Value of Daye Yao
1. Pneumonia, lung abscess, empyema
Take 60g of fresh Daye Yao herb, decoct it with honey and take it; or take 60-120g of fresh whole herb, grind it into juice, and mix it with honey.
2. Testicular enlargement
Take fresh Daye Yao root, 60g each time, and take it with duck eggs with green skin; or use the fresh root to boil with water, add white sugar and take it.
3. Abscesses
Take 60g of fresh whole Daye Yao herb, cut it into pieces, add 1000ml of water, simmer it until 500ml. Take 20ml each time, 3 times a day, after meals. Reduce the dosage for children. Clinical observations have shown that it is effective for abscesses in the early stage, suppurative stage, and necrotic stage, with better results in the early stage.

Pharmacological Effects of Daye Yao
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Daye Yao has the functions of clearing heat and detoxifying, and can be used to treat pneumonia, lung abscess, empyema, diarrhea, dysentery, orchitis, diphtheria, oral ulcers, abscesses, and other conditions.
1. Antitumor effects
The leaf extract has antitumor effects (prolonging lifespan) on mice with leukemia (ascitic type).
2. Hypotensive effects
The water extract of Daye Yao root can lower blood pressure and stimulate respiration when intravenously injected into anesthetized cats, and has inhibitory effects on isolated frog hearts.
