Traditional Chinese Medicines for Home Healthcare During Special Period

February 24, 2024

For most people at this stage, there are often some essential emergency medicines in their homes. Some people believe that the important effects are not as effective as Western medicine, but in fact, the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine is also something that some Western medicines cannot achieve. So, what traditional Chinese medicines should be kept at home during this special period?

  1: Chenpi (Tangerine Peel)

Properties and effects: Chenpi has a pungent and bitter taste, warm nature, and has the functions of regulating qi, harmonizing the middle, dispelling dampness, and resolving phlegm.

Prevention and health care: For patients with persistent cough and thin white phlegm, drinking water soaked with chenpi can be helpful.

  2: Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle)

Properties and effects: Jinyinhua has a sweet and cold taste and can clear heat and detoxify.

Prevention and health care: For symptoms such as sore throat and heat-toxin diarrhea, drinking water boiled with jinyinhua can be effective within a day. For babies with heat rash, boiling jinyinhua into a concentrated juice and gently wiping the affected area with a cotton ball soaked in the juice can show effects after a day.

  3: Gouqizi (Chinese Wolfberry)

Properties and effects: Gouqizi has a sweet and neutral taste and can nourish the kidneys, moisten the lungs, nourish the liver, and improve eyesight.

Prevention and health care: For patients with chronic atrophic gastritis, take an appropriate amount of Ningxia gouqizi, wash and dry them, crush them, and divide them into portions. Take 20 grams daily, divided into two doses on an empty stomach. Two months is one course of treatment, and other Chinese and Western medicines should be stopped during the medication period. For elderly people with dry mouth at night, take 30 grams of gouqizi, wash it with water, and chew it before bedtime. Generally, it can be effective after 10 days. For male infertility patients, take 15 grams of gouqizi, wash it with water, and chew and swallow it every night. Two months is one course of treatment, and appropriate abstinence is required during the medication period.

4: Yimi (Coix Seed)

Properties and effects: Yimi has a sweet and bland taste, slightly cold in nature, and can promote diuresis, strengthen the spleen, clear heat, and promote pus discharge.

Prevention and health care: In seasons or areas with heavy humidity, boiling Yimi into a soup can be helpful. However, Yimi is slightly cold and cool, so it is not suitable for people with yang deficiency who are sensitive to cold to take it for a long time.

5: Jineijin (Stigma Maydis)

Properties and effects: Jineijin has a sweet and neutral taste and can invigorate the stomach, promote digestion, dissolve accumulation, and promote urination.

Prevention and health care: When there are symptoms such as abdominal distension, dry stool, or infantile accumulation, frying dried jineijin and crushing it, adding some hawthorn to boil water and drink it, or grinding yam and jineijin into a fine powder and cooking it with rice to make porridge can be helpful.
