Enhancing Beauty from Within: The Relationship Between Organs and Appearance

February 24, 2024

The relationship between the five organs and appearance is closely related. We often see many women with dull or gray complexion and rough skin, which is often due to the dysfunction of the five organs. Even the most advanced cosmetic techniques may not be able to hide the signs of fatigue on the face. Therefore, if you want to maintain beauty and appearance, you must first enhance the physiological functions of the organs, so as to keep your appearance youthful and vibrant.

(1) Heart and Appearance

The heart governs blood and vessels, and its radiance is reflected on the face. The heart Qi can promote the circulation of blood, thus delivering nutrients throughout the body. The face is the most richly supplied area with blood vessels. The function of the heart can be reflected in the complexion of the face. If the heart Qi is strong and the heart blood is abundant, the face will appear rosy and radiant. If the heart Qi is insufficient and the heart blood is deficient, the face will have poor blood supply, resulting in a pale, dull or yellowish complexion.

Healthy tip: For those with deficient heart Qi and blood, you can prepare a porridge with 30g of longan flesh, 30g of lotus seed flesh, and 100g of glutinous rice. Boil it in water and simmer on low heat until the rice is thoroughly cooked. Regular consumption of this porridge can nourish the heart, replenish blood, moisturize the skin, and enhance the complexion.

(2) Liver and Appearance

The liver stores blood and regulates its circulation. It can adjust the flow of blood and maintain the smooth flow of Qi throughout the body, resulting in a healthy complexion. If the liver fails to regulate the flow of Qi and blood, blood stasis may occur in the face, leading to a bluish-gray complexion or the appearance of liver spots. If the liver blood is insufficient, the facial skin lacks nourishment, resulting in a dull and lackluster complexion, dry and itchy eyes, and poor vision.

Healthy tip: For those with liver imbalances, traditional Chinese medicine recommends consuming a porridge made with 10g of silver ear fungus, 10g of wolfberries, and 60g of glutinous rice. Cook the ingredients together with water to make the porridge, and add some honey before eating. Regular consumption of this porridge can nourish the liver, replenish blood, improve eyesight, moisturize the skin, and reduce liver spots.

(3) Spleen and Appearance

The spleen is the foundation of the body's postnatal energy and is responsible for the production of Qi and blood. When the spleen and stomach function well, the Qi and blood are abundant, resulting in a rosy complexion and good skin elasticity. On the other hand, if the spleen fails to function properly and the Qi and blood are insufficient, the complexion will be pale, lackluster, and without radiance.

Healthy tip: For those with spleen disorders, it is recommended to consume a porridge made with 20 jujubes, 30g of Poria cocos, and 100g of glutinous rice. Wash the jujubes, remove the pits, crush the Poria cocos, and cook them together with the glutinous rice to make the porridge. This porridge can nourish the skin, increase skin elasticity and radiance, and have a beautifying effect.

(4) Lungs and Appearance

The lungs govern the skin and hair. The proper functioning of the lungs ensures the distribution of Qi, blood, and body fluids throughout the body. If the lung function is impaired for a long time, the skin becomes dry, and the appearance becomes haggard and pale.

Healthy tip: For those with lung dysfunction, it is beneficial to consume a lily and walnut porridge. Prepare 40g of lily, 30g of walnuts, and 100g of glutinous rice. Cook them together with water to make the porridge. This porridge can help with hair growth, make the skin fair and moisturized.

(5) Kidneys and Appearance

The kidneys store essence. When the kidneys are full of essence and the kidney Qi is strong, the functions of the five organs will operate normally, resulting in abundant Qi and blood and a youthful appearance. When the kidney Qi is deficient, the complexion becomes dark, the hair turns white, and the teeth become loose or fall out prematurely.

Healthy tip: For those with kidney imbalances that affect appearance, it is recommended to consume a sesame and walnut porridge. Prepare 30g of sesame, 30g of walnut kernels, and 100g of glutinous rice. Cook them together with water to make the porridge. Regular consumption of this porridge can promote hair growth and development, and make the skin fair and radiant.
