E-Maliliao is also known as Xifengdai, Shanjiaodou, Hongzhangcao, Shandouchen, Landoushu, Dahongpao, Shanhuali, Nianshencao, Weitongcao, Diaomahua, Ziteng Xiaohuaihua, and Yehuangdou.

The medicinal material comes from the whole plant of the legume E-Maliliao. The stems are cylindrical with a diameter of about 3mm and have longitudinal ribs.

They have compound leaves with three leaflets, and the terminal leaflet is larger, measuring 5.5-9cm in length and 3.5-5cm in width. It is elliptical or inverted ovate, with a blunt or acute tip and a hard point. The base is wedge-shaped, the margins are entire, and the color is pale green, with soft hairs on the lower surface and a crispy texture.

Sometimes, inflorescences or pods can be seen. The pods are 1.5-2.4cm long, with a constricted ventral suture and a deeply wavy dorsal suture with 4-7 segments. The surface is densely covered with brown silky hairs. It has a faint odor and a bean-like smell.

It is harvested in summer and autumn, cut into sections, dried or used fresh. It has a sweet, bitter, cool, and bitter taste, and has the effects of promoting blood circulation, relieving pain, detoxification and reducing swelling, clearing heat and detoxification, promoting digestion, and relieving pain.

It is mainly used for abdominal pain, pediatric malnutrition, dry blood consumption in women, waist sprains, wounds, urethritis, parotitis, and snake bites.

For internal use, it is decocted in water, 9-30g. For external use, apply an appropriate amount of fresh E-Maliliao, or extract the juice and apply it.
