【Morphology of Wuxiangteng】
Wuxiangteng is an evergreen climbing shrub. The main root is thick and cylindrical. The leaves are alternate, subleathery, ovoid-lanceolate to elongated elliptic, 5-15 cm long, gradually pointed at the apex, blunt and rounded at the base, with sparse fine serrations or nearly entire margins. The flowers are unisexual, axillary, 1-2 per axil, with narrow triangular bracts, approximately 1 mm in length and width; the sepals are 3-5 outer ones, small, triangular to nearly kidney-shaped, with marginal hairs, and the inner 5 are purple-red, elliptic to ovate; the stamens are nearly spherical. The berries turn bright red when ripe. Flowering occurs in summer.
