Proper Meal Planning and Salt Intake for Diabetes Patients

February 23, 2024

What should diabetes patients eat has always been a topic of concern for diabetes patients and their families. Diabetes patients should arrange their meals properly and should not eat too much salt.

Diabetes is a coping mechanism adopted by the human body to save itself. It is like a household that sells its furniture to support its living expenses when its economy cannot support them. When the body doesn't have enough energy to sustain life, it will break down its muscles into sugar to maintain life. This is a temporary coping mechanism. Once the body has enough protein absorption, it will prioritize protein. As a result, the concentration of sugar in the blood will increase because the mechanism of breaking down muscles into sugar does not stop immediately. The concentration of sugar needs to reach a certain value to give the brain a reflex information and form new instructions. Moreover, the previous instructions released in the blood also need to be used up.

Therefore, when a person with high blood sugar has fluctuating blood sugar levels (excluding dietary factors), their problem is nearing its end.

When the muscles of the body become thinner and thinner each year, the mechanism of converting muscles into sugar has been established. However, at this time, the phenomenon of high blood sugar cannot be detected because the sugar has been consumed to sustain life. High blood sugar is unrelated to the illness of the body. The illness of the body is related to an increase in protein.

When the body increases protein, it produces more blood. When there is more blood in the body, the body's self-repair function will be activated. High blood sugar is just one of the two things that are observed simultaneously with an increase in protein. Currently, no one checks if there is an excess of protein in the body or if there is an excess of blood in the body. Instead, they insist that high blood sugar will cause illness. In fact, the body will eliminate excess sugar on its own, and when the body adjusts itself, this problem will no longer exist.

Diabetes patients should not eat too much salt:

In terms of diabetes management, doctors usually emphasize the importance of controlling diet, especially limiting the consumption of high-sugar foods. However, the restriction of salt intake rarely receives attention.

Modern medical research has shown that excessive salt intake enhances the activity of amylase, promotes starch digestion, and facilitates the absorption of free glucose in the small intestine, which can cause an increase in blood sugar concentration and worsen the condition. In addition, excessive salt intake can also lead to the occurrence of hypertension.

Therefore, diabetes patients should also avoid eating too much salt, with a daily salt intake of less than 6 grams.
