Siebera is the aboveground part of plants in the Siebera, Adenostemma, or Stellaria genus of the Asteraceae family. It mainly grows in warm and humid places such as slopes, roadsides, and wastelands, and is mainly produced in Fujian, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang and other places. 【Morphological characteristics】

Siebera stems are slightly quadrangular, branching, 30 to 110 cm long and 0.3 to 1 cm in diameter. The surface is gray-green, yellow-brown or purple-brown, with longitudinal grooves and fine longitudinal lines, and covered with grayish soft hairs. The nodes are obvious and slightly swollen. The texture is brittle and easy to break. The cross-section is yellow-white or greenish, with a wide medulla, white-like, and hollow. The leaves are opposite, the leaf blades are wrinkled and curled, and when flattened, they are ovate in shape, gray-green in color, with blunt serrations on the edges, and both sides have white soft hairs. The main veins are 3-veined. Some may have yellowish head-like inflorescences, with spoon-shaped involucral bracts. It has a slight smell and a slightly bitter taste.

【Environmental distribution】

Siebera is mainly produced in Fujian, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang and other places.

Siebera has strong adaptability and is mostly found in the wild on slopes, roadsides, and wastelands. It prefers warm and humid environments and grows well in fertile clay and sandy loam rich in humus, with high yield. The soil moisture should not be too excessive, otherwise it will easily cause root rot. It is not suitable for cultivation in low-lying and waterlogged areas.

【Clinical application】

1. Hypertension: Siebera, Xia Kucao, Sangjisheng 15g each, Chrysanthemum, Gentian 9g each, decocted and taken orally.

2. Rheumatoid arthritis, back and leg pain, etc.: Siebera, Old Heron Grass 12g each, Chicken Blood Vine 15g, decocted and taken orally.

3. Malaria: Siebera can be used alone, 30-45g, decocted and taken orally.

4. Jaundice hepatitis, hemiplegia, scabies and sores. They can all be used in combination with other medicines.

5. Used for rheumatic arthralgia, bone and joint pain, numbness and weakness of limbs.

Siebera disperses wind and dampness in the tendons and bones, and relieves pain. When used raw, it is slightly cold and good at resolving damp heat, especially suitable for those with hot rheumatic pain. When used together with Stinking Sumac, it is called "Xi Tong Pill" in the book "Collection of Health Experience".

It is used for treating wind-cold-damp arthralgia or stroke paralysis. When used alone, it is steamed with wine into pills and taken with warm wine, called "Xi Sie Pill" in the book "Compilation of Prescriptions for the Living".

6. Used for abscesses, swellings, poisons, eczema and itching. It can be used internally and externally to clear heat, detoxify, dispel wind and dampness, and relieve itching.

Modern research shows that Siebera can also be used for hypertension and has antihypertensive effects. After collection and processing, it should be stored in a well-ventilated and dry place to preserve its medicinal properties.
