It grows wild on slopes and grasslands, climbing on other plants. It is distributed in Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Shaanxi and other places.

[Compound of Sea Holly]

1. For treating acute urinary urgency and pain: Grind dried sea holly into powder, decoct with licorice, take two qian (about 6 grams); or add talcum powder. (Yi Jian Zhi)

2. For treating hematuria: Decoct the stems of sea holly and the leaves of small fleabane, and take the decoction. (Sichuan Materia Medica)

3. For treating white vaginal discharge in women: Take one liang (about 50 grams) of sea holly stems and four liang (about 200 grams) of pig's testicles. Stew them together, remove the residue, and take the meat and soup. (Jiangxi Folk Herbal Prescription)

4. For treating difficulty urinating: Take two to three liang (about 100-150 grams) of sea holly, mix with rock sugar, decoct with water and take it; or replace tea with it and drink it regularly. (Fujian Folk Herbal Medicine)

5. For treating dysentery: Take two to three liang (about 100-150 grams) of sea holly. Decoct with water and take it once to three times a day. (Fujian Folk Herbal Medicine)

8. For treating nocturnal emission: Burn the vine of sea holly to ashes. Take one qian (about 3 grams) to one and a half qian (about 4.5 grams) of clean ash, dissolve it in boiling water and take it. (Fujian Folk Herbal Medicine)

9. For treating burns: Crush fresh sea holly leaves. Mix with milk and apply it to the burn area. (Fujian Folk Herbal Medicine)

10. For treating waistband fire dan: Cut fresh sea holly leaves into small pieces and crush them. Add sesame oil and rice soup, pound them into a paste, and apply it to the affected area. (Jiangxi Folk Herbal Prescription)

11. For treating warts: Take a handful of sea holly, decoct it with water and use the decoction to wash; during washing, rub the wart area with its vine, and wash it two to three times a day. (Fujian Folk Herbal Medicine)

12. For treating wasp stings: Take one liang (about 50 grams) of gold sand fern leaves. Crush them and take the juice to apply to the affected area. (Guangxi Chinese Herbal Medicine)
