【Medicinal Value of Di Yu】

① Treatment for excessive leukorrhea: Take 60 grams of fresh Di Yu, 60 grams of duckweed, 30 grams of small thistle, and 15 grams of plantain, decoct in water and take orally.

② Treatment for abnormal uterine bleeding: Take 10 grams each of Di Yu and white atractylodes, 3 grams of cypress leaves, decoct in water and take orally.

③ Treatment for appendicitis: Take 30 grams each of Di Yu, sophora flower, and fresh Rehmannia root, 20 roots of green onion, 15 grams of lotus stem, and 2.5 grams of licorice, decoct in water and take orally.

④ Treatment for dysentery: Take 15 grams of Di Yu, 20-30 grams of di fu zi (also known as di mai), 6 grams of pomegranate peel, decoct in water and take orally 2-3 times a day.

⑤ Treatment for tinea manus: Take 30 grams of Di Yu, 1.5 grams of talcum powder, grind into powder, mix with vinegar, apply to the affected area, wrap it up, remove after one day and night.

⑥ Treatment for burns and scalds: Take 15 grams of Di Yu, 9 grams of mint leaves, apply to the affected area with sesame oil or vegetable oil.

1. Di Yu Porridge

Ingredients: 20 grams of Di Yu, 100 grams of rice, sugar to taste.

Preparation: Rinse the Di Yu, put it in a pot, add an appropriate amount of water, soak for 5-10 minutes, decoct in water, add rice to cook porridge. When the porridge is cooked, add sugar, boil for another minute or two, take one dose daily for 3-5 consecutive days.

Benefits: It can clear heat and cool blood, suitable for bleeding, such as nosebleeds, hemoptysis, hematemesis, hematuria, bleeding from hemorrhoids, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, persistent bloody diarrhea, and scalds.

2. Di Yu and San Qi Flower Soup

Ingredients: 200 grams of Di Yu, 10 grams of dried San Qi flower, seasoning to taste.

Preparation: Wash the Di Yu and drain the water. Wash the dried San Qi flower and add it to a soup pot with clear broth and salt. Boil for 2 minutes, then add the Di Yu and cook until done. Remove from heat and add monosodium glutamate.

Di Yu has a cold and sour taste. It should be used with caution in cases of deficiency and cold-type bleeding or stagnation. It is not recommended to use Di Yu preparations externally for patients with large-area burns and scalds to prevent excessive absorption of tannins, which may cause toxic hepatitis.
