Yuegua: A Natural Remedy for Restlessness and Thirst

Yuegua, a Chinese medicinal herb, is the fruit of the gourd family plant, Cai Gua. It has the effects of relieving restlessness and heat, promoting body fluid production, and facilitating urination. It is used for symptoms such as restlessness and thirst, urinary difficulties, and mouth ulcers.

【Functions and Indications】

Yuegua has the effects of relieving restlessness and heat, promoting body fluid production, and facilitating urination. It is used for symptoms such as restlessness and thirst, urinary difficulties, and mouth ulcers.

1. "Qian Jin Yao Fang": "Nourishes the intestines and stomach."

2. "Shi Liao Ben Cao": "Balances yin and yang, stops restlessness and thirst."

3. "Ben Cao Shi Yi": "Facilitates urination, relieves restlessness and heat, resolves alcohol toxicity, and dispels internal heat. Can be used as an ash to apply to mouth and lip ulcers and hot sores on the penis."

【Prescriptions】

1. For mouth and lip ulcers: Apply Yuegua ash to the affected area. ("Pu Ji Fang")

2. For paronychia: Clean the wound and apply salted Cai Gua to the affected area. ("Fujian Pharmacopoeia")

3. Yuegua juice: Take 250g of Yuegua, chop it into pieces, mash it, and extract the juice. Take half a bowl each time, or mix it with an appropriate amount of honey. Fresh Yuegua can also be consumed raw.

【Dosage】

Internal use: Consume an appropriate amount, either raw or cooked. External use: Apply an appropriate amount of burned ash to the affected area.

【Precautions】

Yuegua has a cold nature. People with spleen and stomach qi deficiency, diarrhea, or stomach cold pain should avoid consuming raw and cold Yuegua. Women during menstruation and those with cold and painful menstruation should also avoid consuming raw Yuegua.
