Ge Shan Xiang: The Golden Chicken Claw Herb with Healing Powers

"Ge Shan Xiang" is a perennial herbaceous plant, also known as "Golden Chicken Claw," "Chicken Claw Ginseng," "Mountain Fragrance," etc. It is produced in Zhejiang, Guangxi, and other regions in China. Its root can be used as medicine, and Ge Shan Xiang decoction can treat folliculitis!


In traditional Chinese medicine, Ge Shan Xiang is believed to have the effects of dispelling wind and clearing heat, resolving phlegm and stopping cough, and reducing swelling and relieving pain. It is mainly used to treat colds, coughs, headaches, abdominal pain, dysentery, hepatitis, rheumatism, hernia, irregular menstruation, bruises and swelling, abscesses, and snake bites.

Boil 60g of Ge Shan Xiang whole plant, 30g of Hibiscus leaves, and 30g of Hibiscus mutabilis leaves in water, and use the decoction to wash the affected area.

Ge Shan Xiang is a perennial herbaceous plant, 40-130 cm tall, with a smooth and hairless body. The main root is cylindrical or spindle-shaped. The stem is erect, cylindrical, with longitudinal and shallow grooves, and branches on the upper part.

The leaves have petioles, with a length of 7-30 cm, and a wide sheath at the base. The leaf blade is oblong-ovate to broadly triangular, 3-pinnately divided in a 2-fold manner, with leaflets having petioles, 2-7 cm long. The small leaflets are elliptical to lanceolate, 3.5-6.5 cm long, 0.4-2.5 cm wide, gradually tapering at the apex and narrowing at the base. Flowering period is from June to August, and fruiting period is from September to October.

It is wild in sunny slopes of shrubs or forest edges. It is distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, and other regions, and is produced in Zhejiang and Guangxi.
