Shuò Xiè has the effects of dispelling wind and dampness, promoting blood circulation, and dispelling blood stasis. It is mainly used for treating rheumatic pain, nephritis edema, foot swelling, dysentery, jaundice, chronic bronchitis, rubella itching, erysipelas, abscesses, injuries from falls or blows, and fractures.

In an experiment with rabbits, fractures were artificially induced and then fixed with splints. Shuò Xiè powder was applied externally every 3 days, and the dressing was changed. Shuò Xiè decoction was taken orally daily. By the end of the fourth week, X-ray images showed a significant amount of densely compacted callus and remarkable calcification. Tissue slices revealed that the large callus tissue had mostly ossified, and a large number of bone trabeculae had formed.

Phosphorus-32 was injected into the hematoma of the fracture site. After using Shuò Xiè, the pulse dissipation rate was faster, indicating a "blood circulation and blood stasis dispelling" effect.

The deposition of phosphorus in the tissue was also higher than in the control group, indicating that Shuò Xiè could promote the deposition of phosphorus in the callus and thus accelerate fracture healing.
