The Therapeutic Effects and Usage of Xu Changqing in Traditional Chinese Medicine

1. Treatment of chronic bronchitis

  Take 1 liang of Xu Changqing and make it into a decoction or tablet. Take it in two doses, with a 10-day course of treatment. It has certain anti-inflammatory, expectorant, cough-suppressing, and asthma-relieving effects. It is more effective for simple cases and less effective for asthmatic cases.

2. Used for pain relief

  Make Xu Changqing into a 100% injectable solution and administer it through intramuscular injection, 2-4 milliliters each time. Generally, the analgesic effect will take place within 5-10 minutes after injection and last for about 2 hours.

  It is used to treat acute abdominal pain caused by enteritis, biliary ascariasis, peptic ulcer disease, intestinal ascariasis, cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, and postoperative syndrome of the biliary tract. In addition, acupoint injection can be used to treat rheumatic pain.

3. Treatment of skin diseases

  It is effective for eczema, urticaria, contact dermatitis, and stubborn tinea. Usage: Take 2-4 qian of Xu Changqing each time, decoct it with water for oral administration, or use it for external washing. It can also be made into injection or tincture for application.


4. Treatment of neurasthenia

  Take 10-15g of Xu Changqing powder, take it orally twice a day, or take 2 pills of honeyed pill (each pill contains 5g of crude drugs) twice a day, or pack the powder into capsules, take 0.5g each capsule, 20 capsules each time, twice a day. A course of treatment lasts for 20 days. It has remarkable effects on patients with neurasthenia who have headaches, insomnia, forgetfulness, easy fatigue, and anxiety.

5. Treatment of urinary stones

  Take 240g of moneywort, 100g each of honeysuckle vine, talc, and licorice root, 60g each of reed, plantain seed, common clubmoss, Sichuan lovage rhizome, winter melon fruit, and Xu Changqing, 500g of cane sugar, and 3g of sodium benzoate, and make a total of 1000ml. Take Xu Changqing orally and cooperate with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy to crush and eliminate stones. The effect is remarkable.

6. Treatment of allergic rhinitis

  Take 30g of Xu Changqing, 24g of raw rehmannia, 15g each of Chinese angelica and red peony, 6g of Sichuan lovage rhizome, 9g each of Chinese thorowax and Japanese pagoda tree flower. If accompanied by headaches, add 9g each of white atractylodes and chrysanthemum flower. For patients with weak constitution and recurrent colds, add Yu Ping Feng San and take a decoction once daily.
