Chuan Fang Feng: A Versatile Plant for Pain Relief and Healing

Chuan Fang Feng is the root of the umbrella-shaped plant, Radix Saposhnikoviae. It is harvested in spring and autumn, the roots are dug out, washed, and dried. It can be taken internally or used externally.


Functions and Indications of Chuan Fang Feng

Dispels wind, overcomes dampness, and relieves pain.

Mainly used for wind-cold common cold, cold with dampness, headache, dizziness, cold and damp abdominal pain, diarrhea, rheumatoid arthritis, limb spasm, tetanus, red eyes, sores, hernia, scabies, and rubella.

Identification of Chuan Fang Feng

The root of Chuan Fang Feng is conical in shape, slightly curved, 8-12cm long, and 1-1.5cm in diameter.

The surface is brown, with irregular longitudinal grooves, dense lateral root scars, and common brown spots where the cork is peeled off. The root head has a residual stem, slightly branching, and the growth rings are not obvious.

The texture is relatively hard and easy to break. The cross-section is dense. It has a slight scent and a sweet taste.

Processing of Chuan Fang Feng

Remove the residual stem, soak in water, take it out, slice it after being moist, and dry it.

Precautions for using Chuan Fang Feng

It should not be taken by those with deficiency heat and excessive sweating.
