【Morphology of Nv Lou Cai】

A perennial or biennial herb, 20-70cm tall. The entire plant is densely covered with short soft hairs.

The stem is upright and branching from the base. Leaves are opposite, with no stalk in the upper part and short stalks in the lower part; leaf blades are linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, 4.7cm long and 4-8mm wide, with an acute apex and a gradually narrowing base. The margin is entire. The umbel inflorescence is 2-4 branched, with 2-3 flowers per umbel;

The calyx tube is ovoid, with 10 veins and 5 toothed lobes at the apex; the petals are white, lanceolate in shape with 2 lobes at the apex, and have claws at the base and 2 scales at the throat; the stamens are 10, slightly shorter than the petals; the ovary is superior with 3 styles.

The capsule is ellipsoid, with 6 lobes at the apex, and the outer calyx is nearly the same length as the fruit. The seeds are numerous, small, dark brown, and have tuberculate protrusions. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from July to August.

Nv Lou Cai has the effects of promoting blood circulation and regulating menstruation, invigorating the spleen and promoting lactation, and diuretic and detoxifying. It is used to treat irregular menstruation, insufficient lactation, infantile malnutrition, spleen deficiency edema, and boils and abscesses.
