  Common formulas using Xianhecao

  Xianhecao has a bitter taste and a cool property. It is mainly used as a hemostatic agent and also has the function of treating hot dysentery.

  (1) For coughing up blood, it is often used in combination with Baiji, Shengoujie, Huangqin, Chao Zhizi, and Ajiao Zhu;

  (2) For vomiting blood, it can be combined with Chao Huangqin, Zhimu, Baiji, Wuzegu, Jiaosanxian, Jiaobiluo, and Qiancao charcoal;

  (3) For uterine bleeding, it can be combined with Yimucao, Sangjisheng, Danggui charcoal, Shengdi charcoal, Baishao, Ajiao, and Ai charcoal;

  (4) For heat dysentery with bloody stools, it can be combined with Diyu, Huaihua charcoal, Baishao, Muxiang, Huanglian, Huangbo, Baitouweng, and Machixian.

  (4) Yimucao can be used for uterine bleeding, but it also has the function of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis.

  Xianhecao can also be used for uterine bleeding, but it does not have the function of removing blood stasis, so it needs to be combined with some blood-activating drugs for better efficacy.

  According to recent research reports, Xianhecao contains Xianhecaosu and vitamin K; Xianhecaosu can increase platelets and shorten blood clotting time. The usual dosage is five qian to one or two liang.
 


 

  Dietary taboos of Xianhecao

  1. It is not used for non-stop bleeding.

  2. Allergic reactions: manifested as chest tightness, shortness of breath, palpitations, restlessness, dizziness, profuse sweating, pale complexion, cold limbs, chills, and decreased blood pressure.

  Severe cases may also have dizziness, flushed face, and profuse sweating.

  Toxic optic neuritis blindness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, flushed face, and decreased blood pressure.
