Dietary Therapies to Eliminate Fatty Liver: A Guide to Healthy Eating

Fatty liver refers to the accumulation of excessive fat in liver cells due to various reasons. Fatty liver seriously affects our health, so it is urgent to stay away from fatty liver. Below, we introduce several dietary therapies to eliminate fatty liver.


Therapeutic Diet One: Yam and Beef Soup

Ingredients: 30g carrots, 30g potatoes, 30g hawthorn, 200g yam, 300g beef, vinegar, salt, and monosodium glutamate (MSG) as needed

Instructions: Wash and peel the yam, potatoes, and carrots, then cut them into small cubes. Soak the hawthorn in water for 2 hours. Wash the beef and boil it in water for 10 minutes, then remove and cut it into pieces. Take a clay pot, first put the beef and hawthorn in it, simmer over low heat for 1 hour, remove the hawthorn, put in the other ingredients, add salt, and continue to simmer for 30 minutes. Finally, add MSG to taste.

Effects: Beef has a high protein content but a low fat content, so fatty liver patients don't have to worry about worsening the condition by eating beef. Yam has a very low fat content, almost zero. The amylase digestive enzyme in yam can break down protein and sugar, avoiding excessive fat accumulation. Hawthorn is a fruit with a sweet and sour taste, which can enhance appetite and promote digestion.

Therapeutic Diet Two: Mushroom and Tofu Stew

Ingredients: 250g soft tofu, 100g fresh mushrooms

Instructions: In a clay pot, put tofu slices, mushroom slices, salt, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then simmer over low heat for 15 minutes. Add seasoning as desired.

Effects: This recipe tonifies qi, nourishes the stomach, transforms phlegm, and regulates qi. It can reduce fat, fight viruses, and is especially suitable for fatty liver patients after hepatitis.


Therapeutic Diet Three: Celery and Red Date Soup

Ingredients: 200-400g celery, 50-100g red dates

Instructions: The soup can be consumed in separate servings, or 100-150g of celery can be mashed and juiced, then stewed with an appropriate amount of honey and consumed warm once a day, with no fixed treatment duration.

Effects: This recipe has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, invigorating the spleen, nourishing the blood, and nourishing the liver. It also has diuretic, stomach-strengthening, sedative, and blood pressure-reducing effects. It can increase total serum protein and albumin, and is suitable for fatty liver and viral hepatitis patients.

Therapeutic Diet Four: Cassia Seed Porridge

Ingredients: 10-15g fried cassia seeds, 100g glutinous rice, a little rock sugar

Instructions: First, fry the cassia seeds in a pot until they have a slight aroma. Remove and let them cool, then decoct them in water, remove the residue, and add glutinous rice to cook porridge. When the porridge is almost cooked, add rock sugar and boil for another one to two boils before serving.

Effects: Cassia seeds can clear the liver, improve vision, and promote bowel movements. It is suitable for patients with red and swollen eyes, photophobia, excessive tearing, headaches, dizziness, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hepatitis, and habitual constipation.
