  Pseudoginseng (scientific name: Panax pseudoginseng Wall.) is a perennial herb with smooth and hairless stems and leaves. It can be used medicinally, eaten, and used for ornamental purposes.

  It is named because its main root is thick and resembles ginseng. It is also known as "soil ginseng".

  Pseudoginseng was originally a garden ornamental plant and was introduced to Taiwan about eighty years ago. The population is extremely large, and it can be harvested all year round except for the coldest one or two months in winter. If it is used for consumption, the best time to harvest is when the new seedlings are strong or new leaves grow in early summer.

  1. Edible

  It is used to treat dysentery, diarrhea, damp-heat jaundice, internal hemorrhoids bleeding, insufficient milk production, infantile malnutrition, yellow water sores, spleen deficiency and fatigue, pulmonary tuberculosis with coughing blood, irregular menstruation; externally used to treat red and swollen eyes; the leaves can promote lactation and relieve swelling and toxicity. It is used to treat difficult urination, hemorrhoids, and abscesses.

  3. Ornamental

  It can be used for flower beds and rockery planting, and also as potted plants.
