The stem of the female wither is square, can reach several meters in length, winding or segmented, with a diameter of 1-5mm, and the surface is gray-green or brown-green, usually with 6 obvious longitudinal ridges;
It is covered with white soft hair, brittle, easy to break, the cross-section is not flat, the wood is yellowish-white, and most of the fine ducts can be seen, and the pith is loose.
The leaves are opposite, trifoliate, and the leaflets are wrinkled and broken. The intact leaflets are ovate or broadly ovate, and the terminal leaflets are larger than the lateral leaflets and often have indistinct 3 shallow lobes;
The edges have notched coarse serrations or teeth, dark green, and both sides have short soft hair. The total petiole is 2-9cm long and often twisted. Some have flowers and fruits. The aroma is weak and the taste is slightly bitter and astringent.
The female wither is cold-resistant (the stem and root system can withstand a low temperature of -10°C), drought-resistant, prefers light, but is not resistant to hot and intense light, and prefers deep fertile, well-drained alkaline soil and light sandy soil. The root system is yellowish-brown fleshy roots and is not resistant to waterlogging.
