Dawaiyao is a traditional Chinese medicine that is known for its ability to clear heat and detoxify the body. It is also referred to as Squid Herb, Cat Tail Grass, or Dog Tail Grass. 【 Medicinal Properties of Dawaiyao 】

Dawaiyao has the properties of clearing heat, diuresis, reducing swelling, and detoxification. It is commonly used to treat pneumonia, empyema, sore throat, cough, bladder stones, convulsions in children, oral ulcers, and abscesses.

"Fujian Folk Medicinal Herbs": "It promotes diuresis, clears heat, and detoxifies. It is used to treat fever, rash, pneumonia, and empyema."

"Nanning Medical Journal": "It reduces swelling, detoxifies, dissolves accumulations, and can be taken internally to treat bladder stones. Branches and leaves can be boiled with lime water for washing and treating snake bites."

"Min Nan Folk Medicinal Herbs": "It is used to treat sore throat, cough, early-stage abscesses, and oral ulcers."


【 Clinical Applications of Dawaiyao 】

1. Treatment of pneumonia, lung abscess, and empyema: 100g of fresh Dawaiyao whole plant is decocted and taken with honey; or 100-200g of fresh Dawaiyao whole plant is mashed and squeezed for juice, then mixed with honey and taken orally.

4. Treatment of convulsions in children: 12g of dried Dawaiyao roots and 9g of dried Huangdancao are boiled with a little salt, and the decoction is taken orally.

5. Treatment of oral ulcers: The fresh leaves of Dawaiyao are mashed and squeezed for juice, and the juice is gargled 4-6 times daily.

6. Treatment of abscesses: 100g of fresh Dawaiyao roots are boiled with a little salt, and the decoction is taken orally. Fresh leaves are mashed with cold rice and applied externally.

3. The water extract of the roots can be injected intravenously in anesthetized cats to lower blood pressure and cause respiratory excitement; it has an inhibitory effect on isolated frog hearts; the alcoholic extract has no effect.

4. Toxicity: The water extract has slight toxicity; the alcoholic extract has no obvious toxicity.
