Jin Men: A Medicinal Plant for Strengthening the Body and Treating Abscesses

Jin Men is produced in various places, growing in grassy slopes. It is distributed in Henan, Shaanxi, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Guangxi. It is a plant of the Asteraceae family, also known as Xingye Sha Shen or Gan Ju Geng. It is called Xingye Cai in the Northeast region and its tender leaves are used as a good wild vegetable in spring!

[Growth Environment]

Jin Men roots are used for medicinal purposes, with the same effects as Rhodiola sachalinensis. They are generally harvested from spring to late autumn. The dug roots are washed with water, peeled, and dried in the sun. When using fresh roots, they are stored in soil at a moderate temperature indoors and taken as needed. It is propagated by seeds and prefers loose fertile soil.

[Clinical Applications]

(1) Strengthening the body and relieving excessive thirst

(When a man remains erect after ejaculation, it is called "strengthening the body"; if there is also excessive drinking and urination, it is called "excessive thirst" and can lead to abscesses)

1. Jin Men and Stone Pill

Take one pig kidney and one liter of black soybeans, add one and a half Dou of water, and boil until half remains. Remove the residue and keep the juice. Then add three liang of Jin Men, three liang of gypsum, two liang each of ginseng, Poria cocos, magnetite, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, kudzu root, Scutellaria baicalensis, caulis trachelospermi, and licorice, and boil together until it reduces to three Sheng. Divide into three servings.

2. Jin Men Pills

Take Jin Men, soybeans, Poria cocos, magnetite, caulis trachelospermi, cooked Rehmannia glutinosa, cortex eucommiae, Radix scrophulariae, dendrobium, and deer antler, each one liang; ginseng and aloeswood, half a liang each. Grind them together and mix with mashed pig stomach, then mix into pills the size of a wuzi. Take seventy pills per serving, take on an empty stomach, and swallow with saltwater.

(3) Carbuncles and abscesses: Use fresh Jin Men roots to make juice for internal use, and use the residue as a poultice for the wound. It will heal after three applications.

(4) Black blisters on the face: Take one liang each of Jin Men and cinnamon, grind them finely, and take one teaspoon per serving, swallow with vinegar soup.

(5) Poisoning from eating Hemlock parsley (the leaves of Hemlock parsley are similar to a type of celery and can be life-threatening if mistakenly eaten)

1. Take eight liang of Jin Men and six liters of water, boil until reduced to three liters. Take five he, five times a day.

2. Jin Men can be used to detoxify Hemlock parsley. "Compendium of Materia Medica" records that Jin Men is sweet, cold, and non-toxic. It can be used to detoxify Hemlock parsley. Take eight liang of Jin Men and six liters of water, boil until reduced to three liters. Take five he, five times a day.
