Chinese medicine Nv Lou Cai has the effect of promoting blood circulation and regulating menstruation. It is the whole herb of the Caryophyllaceae plant Nv Lou Cai. It is harvested in summer and autumn. Also known as Guan Guan Hua, Dui Ye Cao, Dui Ye Cai (Guizhou Herbal Medicine). It grows on the grassy slopes of Zishan Mountain.

  A perennial or biennial herb, 20-70cm tall. The whole plant is densely covered with short and soft hairs.

  The stem is erect and branches from the base. Leaves are opposite, with upper leaves sessile and lower leaves with short petioles; leaf blades are linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, 4.7cm long and 4-8mm wide, with acute apex and gradually narrowing base. Entire margin. Umbel inflorescence has 2-4 branches, and each umbel has 2-3 flowers;

  Calyx tube is long-ovate with 10 veins, 5-cleft at the apex; petals are 5, white, inverted-lanceolate, 2-lobed at the apex, with claw at the base and 2 scales at the throat; stamens are 10, slightly shorter than the petals; ovary is superior with 3 styles.

  Capsule is ellipsoid with 6 clefts at the apex, and the outer calyx is nearly as long as the fruit. Seeds are numerous, small, dark brown, with wart-like protrusions. Flowering period is from May to June, and fruiting period is from July to August.

  Nv Lou Cai has the effects of promoting blood circulation, regulating menstruation, invigorating the spleen, diuresis, and detoxification. It is mainly used for irregular menstruation, insufficient lactation, pediatric malnutrition, spleen deficiency with edema, and carbuncle and abscess.
