February 10, 2024

Zizhuye is the dried leaves of the plant Du Hong Hua, which belongs to the family of Labiatae. It is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine for stopping bleeding and reducing inflammation. It can be used to treat symptoms such as bleeding from wounds and bleeding gums. Let's learn about the effectiveness and usage of Zizhuye together!

  Identification of Zizhuye

After drying, the leaves of Zizhuye are usually curled and easily breakable.

If the leaves are flattened, we can observe that they are elongated elliptical or lanceolate in shape.

The length of the leaves is between 15 and 30 centimeters, and the width is relatively larger, between 5 and 11 centimeters. Additionally, the leaves of Zizhuye become more pointed, with a certain degree of serration on the edges.

Zizhuye can be distinguished by the hairs on the herb. The upper surface of the leaves has short hairs, while the lower surface has denser grayish-white hairs. This feature can be used for identification of Zizhuye in daily life.

  Efficacy of Zizhuye

Zizhuye contains a large amount of tannins, flavonoids, natural neutral resins, and sugars. These substances can increase the number of platelets and shorten bleeding time.

Zizhuye has antibacterial properties, inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Therefore, it has good medicinal value and is effective in antibacterial and anti-inflammatory treatments.

Zizhuye has hemostatic effects and is effective in treating bleeding in the digestive and respiratory tracts caused by blood heat. For treatment, a decoction of 10 to 15 grams of Zizhuye with water can be taken orally.

Additionally, Zizhuye can be used externally to treat snake bites. It has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, as well as detoxification properties.

  Usage of Zizhuye

  1. Treatment of hemoptysis

Take an appropriate amount of dried Zizhuye and boil it with boiling water. Filter the decoction and drink it instead of tea water every day. Scientific usage can keep hemoptysis away from our body.

  2. Treatment of bleeding from wounds

Take a suitable amount of fresh Zizhuye, wash it with cold water, and crush it. Apply it to the injured area.

Alternatively, grind Zizhuye into powder and sprinkle it directly on the injured area before wrapping it up. This remedy is widely used in Fujian, China and has proven to be effective.
