  The Chinese medicine Chishang San is the whole plant of the Polygonaceae plant, including Persicaria wallichii or Polygonum orientale, which is used for its heat-clearing and detoxifying effects. It is now commonly used in modern Chinese-style gardens to add a Chinese flavor.

  Ecological Environment:

  1. It grows in shady and humid areas such as roadsides, ditches, and grasslands, or it can be cultivated.

  Chishang San has the effects of clearing heat, detoxifying, promoting blood circulation, and reducing swelling. It is used to treat dysentery, leukorrhea, heat-induced headache, excessive menstruation, amenorrhea, mammary abscesses, and injuries caused by falls or blows.

  Chishang San is not only used as ground cover but also used in many modern Chinese-style gardens to add a Chinese flavor.

  The flowers and leaves of Chishang San have some unique markings. In spring, the young branches, leaf stalks, and leaf veins are purple-red, and the mature leaves in summer are green with rust-red patches in the center and light purple-red edges.

  In addition to its color, Chishang San has another distinctive feature: it has a pair of round ears at the leaf base with purple-black markings on top.
