Women's Cabbage is a Chinese medicinal herb, harvested in summer and autumn. It is also known as Guan Guan Hua, Dui Ye Cao, and Dui Ye Cai (from "Guizhou Herbal Medicine"). It belongs to the Caryophyllaceae family and is used as a whole plant in medicine. It has the functions of tonifying the spleen, diuretic, and promoting lactation. Women's Cabbage is a biennial or perennial herbaceous plant, 20-70cm tall. The entire plant is covered with short, soft hairs. The stem is erect and branches from the base. The leaves are opposite, with the upper leaves sessile and the lower leaves with short petioles;

The capsule is elliptical, with a six-lobed apex, and the outer calyx is nearly equal in length to the fruit. The seeds are numerous, small, dark brown, and have tuberculate projections. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from July to August.


The entire plant is densely covered with short, soft hairs, 20-70cm long. The root is slender, spindle-shaped, and woody. The base of the stem branches out. The leaves are opposite, with the leaf blades lanceolate to oblanceolate, 4-7cm long, 4-8mm wide, with a sharp apex and a gradually narrowing base;

The upper leaves of Women's Cabbage are sessile. The flowers are pink and often 2-3 flowers are born on the branches. The capsule is elliptical. The seeds are kidney-shaped, small, dark brown, and have tuberculate projections on the edges. It has a slight aroma and a mild taste.


Women's Cabbage has the effects of promoting blood circulation and regulating menstruation, promoting lactation and tonifying the spleen, and eliminating dampness and detoxification. It is used to treat irregular menstruation, insufficient lactation, pediatric malnutrition, spleen deficiency edema, and carbuncle swelling and toxicity.
