Origin: It grows in sunny grass slopes or shrubs at altitudes of 1100-2300 meters. Distributed in Sichuan, Yunnan and other places.

1. Identification of characteristics
Cylindrical, 3.7-7.5cm long, gray-white or light brown on the surface, opaque. If the outer skin is not removed, 3-4 rings and longitudinal stripes can be seen, and one layer of outer skin can be peeled off, somewhat fibrous.

Obvious knife marks can be seen. There is a concave or raised residual stem scar at the top.

Firm texture, not easy to break, uneven surface, somewhat woody. Slightly fragrant, slightly bitter taste.

2. Microscopic identification
Powder characteristics: light brown.

① Numerous starch grains, single or compound. Single grains are round, helmet-shaped, or axe-shaped, and a few are irregular quadrilaterals, with a diameter of 3-8-13μm. Larger starch grains occasionally have "cross" shaped hilum, and the layers are not obvious.

The compound grains are composed of 2-4 sub-grains; the sub-grains are often helmet-shaped, semi-circular, or triangular prism.

② Calcium oxalate cluster crystals exist in the inner layer of cork and thin-walled cells, flower-like or petal-like, with a diameter of 8-26μm.

③ The vessels are reticulate, with a diameter of up to 80μm, and the end walls are inclined, with elongated pits; fragments of vessels with large pitted pits can also be seen.

④ The thin-walled tissue of wood is in the form of chunks, with cells that are rectangular or elongated, and the walls are slightly thickened.
