Recipes for Dangshen Medicinal Food: Tonify Spleen and Benefit Qi

Dangshen is a precious medicinal herb that can tonify qi. It has the effects of tonifying the middle, benefiting the lungs and spleen, quenching thirst, and nourishing blood and body fluid. People often use Dangshen to cook nourishing medicinal food in combination with other Chinese herbs. Here are some recipes of Dangshen medicinal food that can tonify the spleen and benefit qi.


1. Dangshen and Poria Porridge

Recipe: 10g Dangshen, 10g Poria, 10g ginger, 100g glutinous rice.

Method: First, decoct Dangshen, Poria, and ginger in water and extract the juice. Then, add the rice and cook into porridge. Season with salt to taste.

Effects: This recipe uses Dangshen and Poria to tonify the spleen and stomach, ginger to warm the middle and improve appetite, and glutinous rice to nourish the spleen and stomach. It is suitable for weakness of the spleen and stomach, poor appetite, vomiting, and emaciation.

2. Dangshen, Astragalus, and Chicken Soup

Recipe: Half a free-range chicken, 30g Dangshen, 30g Astragalus, 25g red dates, 15g longan flesh, a few slices of ginger, a pinch of salt, 1.5L water.

Method: Wash the chicken and cut it into pieces (if the pot is large enough, you can also put the whole or half chicken in). Boil the chicken pieces in cold water until it boils, then remove and rinse. Rinse the red dates and longan flesh with water. Soak Dangshen and Astragalus in water for 3-5 minutes, then remove and rinse. Put all the ingredients into the inner pot of an electric pressure cooker and add 1.5L water. Select the "soup" function to cook.

Effects: Season with salt before serving. This soup can tonify qi, nourish blood, invigorate the spleen, and nourish the stomach.


3. Dangshen and Jujube Rice

Recipe: 10g Dangshen, 10 jujubes, 150g glutinous rice.

Method: Wash Dangshen and jujubes, decoct them in water and extract the juice. Steam the glutinous rice separately, then invert it into a bowl and pour the Dangshen and jujube juice over it. Add some white sugar. It can be eaten twice a day.

Effects: This recipe uses Dangshen to tonify the spleen and benefit qi. Jujubes and glutinous rice work together with Dangshen. It is suitable for spleen deficiency and weak qi.

4. Dangshen, Astragalus, and Glutinous Rice Porridge

Recipe: 10g Dangshen, 10g Astragalus, 100g glutinous rice.

Method: Decoct Dangshen and Astragalus in water and extract the juice. Add the glutinous rice and cook into porridge. Season with white sugar to taste.

Effects: This recipe uses Dangshen and Astragalus to tonify the qi of the lungs and spleen, and Astragalus can also consolidate the exterior and stop sweating. It is suitable for lung and spleen qi deficiency, fatigue, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, and loose stools.
