【Dosage and Administration】

Internal use: decoction, 10-20g of bamboo joint grass, 30-60g of fresh product. External use: appropriate amount, pounded and applied; or powdered and sprinkled.

【Morphological Characteristics】

Bamboo joint grass is an annual herb with sprawling stems. The stems can reach more than 1 meter in length, with many branches. Some branches have branches at each node, and they are hairless or have a row of short, stiff hairs, or are covered with short, stiff hairs.

The leaves are lanceolate or elongated oval in the lower part of the branches, 3-12 cm long and 0.8-3 cm wide. The apex is usually gradually pointed, rarely acute, and hairless or covered with stiff hairs.

The leaf sheath of bamboo joint grass often has small red spots, with stiff hairs only along the mouth and one side, or covered with stiff hairs. The scorpion-like umbel inflorescence is usually solitary in the leaf axil of the upper part of the branch, sometimes pseudoterminal, and each branch generally has only one inflorescence.

The bracts have a stalk of 2-4 cm in length, folded, and after spreading, they are ovoid lanceolate, gradually pointed or short-pointed, heart-shaped or rounded at the base, hairless or covered with short, stiff hairs on the outside.

The inflorescence starts to branch into two from the base; one branch has a peduncle of 1.5-2 cm in length, perpendicular to the bracts, and in a straight line with the stalk of the bracts. There are 1-4 flowers on it, which extend far beyond the bracts, but they are all infertile.

【Compatibility and Application】

1. Used for difficult urination: 60g of bamboo joint grass and 60g of plantain. Decocted and consumed as tea. (National Compilation of Chinese Medicinal Herbs)

2. Used for inducing labor: (Bamboo Joint Vegetable) The stem (excluding the leaves) is peeled and disinfected with 75% ethanol, and then inserted into the cervix for 24 hours (the sterilized gauze is packed to prevent the medicine from falling out). The dosage is determined by the number of months of pregnancy, with each piece being about 5cm long. (Compilation of Guangxi National Medicine)
