【Functions and Indications】

For children with carbuncles starting from the knee.

【Administration and Dosage】

【Medicinal Values of Shuo Ze】

1. Treats partial atrophy, cold and numbness, or lumbago with heavy pain or leg numbness: Burn Shuo Ze leaves, place them thickly on a mat or pillow, and sleep on them to alleviate the cold. In winter, use the roots; in spring, use the stems. Boil them and lie on them for good effects. Other methods, such as thin ironing, are not as effective as steaming with Shuo Ze. This method is also used for wind-dampness in various parts of the body. (From "Qian Jin Fang")

2. Treats edema, inability to sit or lie down, and swelling of the head, face, and body: Scrape the skin off the Shuo Ze roots, pound them into juice, mix with an equal amount of wine, warm it, and take it on an empty stomach to induce slight vomiting and purging. (From "Mei Shi Ji Yan Fang")

3. Treats early-stage athlete's foot, with swelling and pain from the foot to the lower leg: Crush the Shuo Ze roots, mix them with three parts of rice wine lees and one part of the roots, steam them until hot, and apply them to the swollen area while still hot. Repeat twice a day. Also effective for stubborn numbness. (From "Qian Jin Fang")

4. Treats nephritis edema and edema caused by athlete's foot: Use 4 to 8 qian (about 12-24 grams) of the whole Shuo Ze plant. Boil in water and take orally. (From "Common Chinese Medicinal Herbs Manual" by Guangzhou Troops)

5. Treats abnormal vaginal discharge in women: Take 3 liang (about 90 grams) of fresh Shuo Ze roots each time, stew together with pig small intestines, and take it continuously for 3 to 5 times. (From "Quanzhou Materia Medica")

6. Treats pain and fractures from injuries: Take 6 qian (about 18 grams) of Shuo Ze roots. Boil in equal parts of wine and water, strain the residue, add one liang (about 30 grams) of white sugar, mix well, and take it. (From "Jiangxi Folk Medicinal Herbs")
