The Dangers of Blind Fasting for Weight Loss

February 7, 2024

In order to have a slim figure, many beautiful girls adopt blind fasting methods, not eating a grain of rice all day and only eating a little vegetables to satisfy hunger. It should be noted that such weight loss methods can result in "remaining fat but inviting illness".

Dieting is an important method of losing weight. However, dieting should be done scientifically. We know that a person's daily activities require a certain amount of calories, and these calories come from food intake. If the food intake is excessive, it will be converted into fat and stored in the body. Therefore, dieting for weight loss involves controlling excessive food intake to prevent it from being converted into fat. It also involves slightly reducing food intake to be lower than the body's activity needs. The required calories are then provided by converting the stored fat in the body, in order to burn the body fat. However, this type of dieting must be based on ensuring the normal activity needs of the body.

If blind and excessive dieting, or even fasting for weight loss, is done for a long time, it can endanger health. This is because dieting not only consumes fat cells, but also consumes other normal cells in the body. Some studies have shown that starvation therapy reduces body weight, but only 35% of the lost weight is fat tissue, while the remaining 65% is non-fat tissue. Short-term fasting can cause low blood sugar, resulting in dizziness, fatigue, and other symptoms. Long-term excessive dieting can cause anemia, malnutrition, rough skin, dry or falling hair, increased facial wrinkles, dizziness, fatigue, cold limbs, weak and slow pulse, decreased resistance to disease, decreased sexual function, impaired intelligence, and in severe cases, severe ketosis, hyperuricemia, and neurotic anorexia may occur.

Therefore, it is important to adjust the dietary structure and reduce excessive food intake when dieting for weight loss. Random fasting or excessive dieting should be avoided. If there is a need to rapidly reduce body weight in a short period of time and complete fasting is required, it should be done under the guidance of a doctor in a hospital.
