Effects and Functions of Di Yu

1. Cooling blood and stopping bleeding

It is suitable for various types of bleeding due to blood heat. It is especially suitable for lower bowel bleeding, bleeding from tuberculosis, excessive menstrual bleeding, and dysentery due to its downward descending nature.

For bleeding from hemorrhoids, it is often used in combination with Huai Jiao and Huang Qin. If it is used for excessive menstrual bleeding with a bright red color, it is often combined with Sheng Di Huang and Mu Dan Pi. For dysentery, it is often used in combination with Ce Bai Ye and Xian He Cao. With its sour and astringent taste, it can also promote blood coagulation and stop bleeding.

2. Detoxifying and healing wounds

It is used for treating sores, ulcers, and scalds. It can not only clear heat, detoxify, and reduce swelling but also promote tissue regeneration and wound healing. It is an essential herb for treating scalds. It can be used alone or mixed with powdered Da Huang and applied with sesame oil.
