【Pharmacological Effects of Da Wei Yao】

The water extract of Da Wei Yao root can lower blood pressure and stimulate respiration when injected intravenously in anesthetized cats. It also has an inhibitory effect on the isolated frog heart. However, the alcohol extract does not show any effect.

The water extract has no significant effect on the isolated guinea pig ileum, but can increase the tension of the isolated rabbit duodenum. On the other hand, the alcohol extract has inhibitory effects on both.

Both water and alcohol extracts have no effect on the frog rectus abdominis muscle, but both have significant excitatory effects on the isolated rat uterus. Both water and alcohol extracts have oxytocin-like effects.

The leaf extract has antitumor effects (prolonging lifespan) on Schwartz leukemia (ascites type) in mice.
