[The Cultivation Methods of Diding Grass]

  1. Propagation method

Diding grass is propagated by seeds, with about 3-4 kilograms of seeds needed per mu. It is usually intercropped with gramineous plants. After the corn and other gramineous plants are harvested in late summer, lightly hoe the ground between the rows.

Evenly sow the seeds in the rows, use a large hoe to cover the seeds, water them, and keep the bed surface moist. The seeds will germinate in about 30 days.

  2. Cultivation techniques

  (1) Field management

As Diding grass is a shade-loving plant, water it frequently and strengthen management after germination. When the autumn crops are ripe for harvest, be careful not to bury the Diding seedlings. Water with freezing water before freezing, and apply compost to the bed.

After the thaw in the following spring, crush the manure blocks and level the bed. From Qingming to Guyu, when the new leaves have not yet covered the ground, apply 10-15 kilograms of urea per mu, and water after application. Stop watering after Li Xia to prevent stem and leaf rot and reduce yield.

  (2) Major pests and diseases

Around the Jingzhe solar term, when the seedlings turn green, there are often black caterpillars of a certain lepidopteran species that bite the tender shoots of Diding grass, causing significant damage. You can use Bacillus thuringiensis (No. 3 wax moth) 500-1000 times dilution to spray and kill them; or use 2500 grams of fungal powder mixed with 15-25 kilograms of fine soil per mu to make poisoned soil and spread it in the field for killing.
