【Source】 Luo Shuang Hong (Ilex serrata Thunb.) belongs to the Aquifoliaceae family and can be used medicinally with its root bark and leaves. It can be harvested throughout the year, mostly used fresh.

【Taste and Nature】 Sweet, bitter, and cool.

【Functions and Indications】 Clears heat and detoxifies, cools blood and stops bleeding. It is used for burns, scalds, bleeding wounds, ulcers, and lung abscesses.

【Dosage】 0.5-1 liang (Chinese unit of weight); for external use, apply an appropriate amount of fresh product to the affected area.

Applications of Luo Shuang Hong and Accompanying Prescriptions

1. Treatment of Lung Abscess

Luo Shuang Hong fresh roots, 1-2 liang. Decoction and take orally.

2. Treatment of Burns

Luo Shuang Hong fresh root bark, mashed and squeezed for juice, apply topically.

3. Treatment of Ulcers and Sores

Luo Shuang Hong fresh roots, 1-2 liang. Decoction and take orally; take fresh leaves, mash and apply topically.

4. Treatment of Sprains and Injuries

Luo Xin Fu roots (fresh), 1 liang. Slice and steam with yellow wine, take in three doses before meals, or decoct and mix with yellow wine.

5. Treatment of Stomach Pain and Enteritis

Luo Xin Fu roots, 5 qian (Chinese unit of weight); Qing Mu Xiang, 3 qian. Bake and dry, grind into powder. Take three times a day, two fen (Chinese unit of weight) each time, mix with boiling water and drink. Or take Luo Xin Fu roots, 2-3 qian, decoct and take orally. 6. Treatment of Soreness in Muscles and Bones due to Excessive Labor

Luo Xin Fu fresh roots, 1 liang. Slice thinly, add an appropriate amount of yellow wine, steam and extract the juice, divide into three doses, take before meals, chew and swallow the residue. Avoid eating sour foods and mustard greens. (Jiangxi "Herbal Manual")

7. Treatment of Chronic Blood Stasis, Muscle and Bone Pain

Luo Xin Fu fresh roots, 1 liang. Mash and take with yellow wine. (Jiangxi "Herbal Manual")

8. Treatment of Infantile Convulsions

Luo Xin Fu roots, 2-3 qian. Decoction and take orally.

9. Postoperative Pain Relief

Luo Xin Fu roots, 5-6 qian. Decoction and take orally.

10. Treatment of Snake Bites

Luo Xin Fu fresh roots, 1 liang. Chew and swallow the juice or decoct and take orally, apply the residue externally to the wound. (The following prescriptions are from "Zhejiang Folk Commonly Used Herbs")
