[Legend of Xianhecao]

Once upon a time, there were more than 100 cranes living in the reed pond in Liaoheyuan Town, Dongliao County, and one of them was a beautiful female crane. It is said that she came down to the world from the heavenly fairy.

Not far from the reed pond, there is a turning heart lake spring. The eye spring is formed by a earthworm drilling out of the ground. The spring water is fragrant and sweet, clear and bottomless, and does not dry up all day long. One year, there was a severe drought, and the reed pond dried up. The cranes were extremely thirsty and had no way to quench their thirst, so they begged the crane goddess to get some water from the turning heart lake spring to drink.

The crane goddess agreed. She called out and turned into a village girl, carrying a water jar, and came to the spring. She leaned over to look into the spring, and her beautiful figure was reflected in the spring. The earthworm in the spring saw this beautiful village girl and suddenly rushed out of the water, opening its mouth and claws to pounce on the crane girl.

The crane girl fought hard with the earthworm and smashed the water jar fiercely at the earthworm's eyes. Unexpectedly, the earthworm bit the crane girl's foot and grabbed her collar.

The crane girl was angry and helpless, and she no longer wanted to fight. She called out and immediately returned to her original form, flying into the sky; the crane sisters in the reeds also flew away with her. Since then, a kind of grass gradually grew on this land, with feather-like compound leaves, flower spikes at the top, black roots, and white buds at the root. People call it Xianhecao.
