  1. Ecological Environment

  (1) It inhabits high mountain grassland at an altitude of 2800-5000m. It lives in caves and forms groups. It is active during the day and hibernates in winter. Its main diet includes herbaceous plants and tender branches and leaves of shrubs.

  (2) It inhabits grasslands and meadows at an altitude of 2500-3500m. It prefers moist environments and lives in caves. The entrances of the caves are marked by mounds of soil, which are the burrows of groundhogs. It feeds on plants.

  (3) It inhabits the edges of geothermal undulating areas where grasslands and deserts intersect. It lives in groups and builds its caves on highlands or slopes, with mounds of soil outside the entrances. It feeds on grass roots and seeds.

  (4) This species is one of the representative species in the subalpine meadow zone. It inhabits alpine meadows where grasses are dense. It lives in caves and also prefers to live in groups. There are yellow groundhog mounds near the entrances of the caves. Its main diet includes plants from the Cyperaceae and Poaceae families.

  2. Distribution

  (1) It is distributed in Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet, and other regions.

  (2) It is only distributed in the northern part of Xinjiang.

  (3) It is distributed in the eastern part of Inner Mongolia and the northern part of Xinjiang.

  (4) It is distributed in the western and southern parts of Xinjiang.
