It is commonly used for conditions such as lung heat cough, dysentery, and edema. Now, let's learn about the wild yam pictures and its original plant morphology.

【Original Plant Morphology of Wild Yam】

Wild yam is a perennial deciduous vine with milky sap. It has aerial roots that cling to trees or rocks. The stem is cylindrical or slightly flattened, brownish, with many branches and slightly swollen nodes.

The leaves are alternate; leaf stalks are 1-2 centimeters long; there are 2 bracts, conical with pointed tips and entire margins; leaf blades are ovate, ovate-elliptic, or elliptic, about 3-6 centimeters long and 2-4 centimeters wide;

The apex is bluntly pointed with wavy serrations on the edges, the base is rounded or heart-shaped, green on the upper surface with stiff hairs, lighter on the lower surface, and the veins are hairy.

The flowers are inconspicuous; the flowers of wild yam are unisexual, mostly female and male flowers are borne within the fleshy bracts; the bracts are flattened and spherical, reddish-brown, and half-buried in the soil on the creeping branches. The fruit is small. Flowering period is from April to May.

【Clinical Applications of Wild Yam】

Wild yam vine is used to treat digestive disorders in children.

Take 3 kilograms of fresh whole herb (stems, leaves) or rhizomes, add 10,000 milliliters of water, simmer over low heat for 3 hours, and reduce to 3,000 milliliters.

For infants aged 6 months, administer 20 milliliters each time; for infants aged 7 months to 1 year, administer 25-30 milliliters each time, 2-3 times a day, until normal bowel movements are restored.

Treated 331 cases, all between the ages of 6 months and 2 and a half years, with the shortest course of illness being 1 day and the longest being 10 days; among them, there were 5 cases of simple digestive disorders and 326 cases of toxic digestive disorders.

The result was that 261 cases were cured, and the remaining cases had poor or no effect. All cured cases were supplemented with intravenous fluid and correction of electrolyte imbalances.

In general, the number of bowel movements decreased or diarrhea stopped within 2-3 days after taking the medicine, and there were no recurrent symptoms after recovery. On the first day of treatment, fasting for 6-24 hours depending on the condition is required.

Practice has proven that the medicine must be concentrated, otherwise it will affect the therapeutic effect; fresh herbs are better than dried ones, and rhizomes are better than the whole herb.
