  [Effects of bamboo leaf ginseng]

  Bamboo leaf ginseng has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, relaxing tendons and promoting blood circulation. It is used to treat high fever that doesn't go away, fatigue with bone steaming and hot flashes, rheumatism and numbness, joint and lower back pain, dysmenorrhea, excessive menstruation, abscesses, boils, injuries, and fractures.

  ① "Shaanxi Traditional Chinese Medicine": "Nourishes yin and tonifies deficiency, dispels wind and dampness, activates collaterals, and alleviates pain. It is used to treat fatigue, bone steaming and hot flashes, pulmonary tuberculosis, palpitations and shortness of breath, rheumatic lower back and leg pain, sciatica."

  ② "Yunnan Traditional Chinese Medicine": "Promotes bone healing, stops bleeding, reduces inflammation and relieves pain, dispels wind and eliminates dampness."

  ③ "Jiangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine": "Dispels wind, clears heat, relaxes tendons, and promotes blood circulation."

  [Usage of bamboo leaf ginseng]: Internal use: decoction, 9-15 grams; or soaked in alcohol, stewed with chicken, or ground into powder. External use: apply crushed bamboo leaf ginseng to the affected area.

  The dried rhizome of bamboo leaf ginseng is flat and cylindrical, curved, 5-10mm long, with a diameter of about 5mm, and has numerous fine roots on the lower side. The root of bamboo leaf ginseng is cylindrical, slightly twisted, 4-10mm long, with a diameter of 1-2mm; the surface is yellowish-brown with fine longitudinal grooves.

  It is hard and brittle, with a yellowish-white epidermis and a pale brown wood section. Bamboo leaf ginseng has a mild aroma and a sweet and slightly spicy taste. The ideal bamboo leaf ginseng has thick roots and a yellowish-brown color, and is also used as Baiweisu in Guizhou province.

[Prescription applications of bamboo leaf ginseng]

  1. Treatment for paralysis of limbs: 60g of mountain bamboo flower roots, 1 egg. Stew with water and consume the soup with the egg.

  2. Treatment for rheumatic pain: 18g of mountain bamboo flower roots, 15g of red child root, 9g each of rhizoma seu radix dioscoreae, dragon's blood root, and tiger thorn root. Soak in 500ml of white wine for 7 days, take 15-60ml each time, once in the morning and evening.

  3. Treatment for lower back pain: appropriate amount of mountain bamboo flower roots. Grind into powder, take 6g each time, mix with water or wine, take once in the morning and evening. (Prescriptions 1-3 are from "Jiangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine")

  4. Treatment for fatigue, bone steaming and hot flashes: 60g of bamboo leaf ginseng, 30g each of American ginseng, Polygonatum odoratum, and Asarum. Stew with pork for consumption. ("Shaanxi Traditional Chinese Medicine")
