February 2, 2024

Wubeizi is a type of traditional Chinese medicine that can treat various diseases. It has the effects of nourishing the lungs, reducing heat, stopping diarrhea, stopping sweating, stopping bleeding, and treating dampness and sores. It is commonly used for symptoms such as chronic cough due to lung deficiency, cough with phlegm due to lung heat, chronic diarrhea and dysentery, spontaneous sweating or night sweats, diabetes, rectal bleeding or hemorrhoids, external bleeding, abscesses and sores, and skin dampness. Below, let's learn about the clinical applications of Wubeizi.

1. Preventing and treating rice-field dermatitis

Grind one pound of Wubeizi into fine powder and dissolve it in eight pounds of white vinegar. Apply it to the limbs that will be soaked in water before entering the rice field to form a black protective layer. If rice-field dermatitis has already occurred, after applying it, the oozing and pain will stop within half to one day.

2. Treating night sweats

Grind Wubeizi into fine powder and take 1-3 qian (3-9 grams) before bedtime. Mix it with cold boiled water to form a paste and apply it to the navel, covering it with gauze and securing it with adhesive tape. For severe cases, it can be applied twice a night. Generally, 1-3 applications are effective. It has been observed that 61 patients with night sweats caused by conditions such as tuberculosis and silicosis or combined tuberculosis have obtained varying degrees of improvement.

3. Treating cervical erosion

Grind an equal amount of Wubeizi and alum into fine powder, and mix it with glycerin to form a paste. Apply a piece of gauze with a thread attached to it, soaked with the paste, to the site of cervical erosion and remove it after 12 hours. Repeat the procedure once a week. It has been observed that out of 18 cases, 4 cases showed complete smoothness of the erosion, and 14 cases showed improvement.

4. Treating occipital abscess

Shave off the hair on the occipital region, clean and disinfect it, and remove the pus plug of the abscess. Apply an appropriate amount of Wubeizi powder mixed with vinegar to the abscess, about 2 millimeters thick. Change the dressing 1-2 times a day, and clean the wound each time. Out of 20 cases, except for 2 cases that continued to have new abscesses, the remaining 18 cases were cured within 3-9 days.

5. Treating inverted eyelashes

Grind one liang (15 grams) of Wubeizi into fine powder, and add an appropriate amount of honey or vinegar to mix it into a paste. Wash the eyelid skin first, then apply an appropriate amount of the paste about 2 millimeters away from the eyelid edge. Apply it once a day, and generally, 3-10 applications can correct the inverted eyelashes.

6. Using it to stop bleeding after tooth extraction

After tooth extraction, if bleeding continues, apply an appropriate amount of Wubeizi powder to the wound (to prevent saliva from getting in), and within 3-5 minutes, a thin yellowish-white film will cover the surface of the wound, with the blood clotting underneath. There is no need to bite on cotton gauze. For upper teeth extraction, it may be difficult to apply the powder, and sometimes slight pressure is needed to promote blood clotting. This method was used to stop bleeding in 54 people (63 teeth) after tooth extraction, and the hemostatic effect was satisfactory in all cases.
