Erzhi Wan: A Traditional Chinese Medicine for Nourishing Liver and Kidneys

Erzhi Wan, a traditional Chinese medicine, is mentioned in "Yifang Jijie". It has the effects of nourishing the liver and kidneys, nourishing yin and blood. It is used to treat liver and kidney yin deficiency syndrome. Symptoms include bitter taste in the mouth, dry throat, dizziness, insomnia with many dreams, sore and weak waist and knees, weak and flaccid lower limbs, seminal emission, and premature graying of hair.


[Introduction to Prescription and Medicinal Materials]

Nvzhenzi: It is a Chinese herb that nourishes the kidneys, nourishes yin, nourishes the liver, and brightens the eyes. It can treat diseases such as insufficient liver and kidney, dizziness, tinnitus, premature graying of hair, and blurred vision.

Han Lian Cao: It nourishes the liver and kidneys, cools the blood, and stops bleeding. It can treat various kinds of bleeding, such as vomiting blood, nosebleeds, coughing blood, intestinal bleeding, urinary bleeding, hemorrhoids bleeding, and uterine bleeding. When applied as a paste, it can promote hair growth. When taken orally, it has the effect of darkening and blackening the hair.

[Dosage]

Take Nvzhenzi and grind it into fine powder. Cook Han Lian Cao in water for 3 times, filter the liquid, concentrate it into a paste, add 60g of honey and an appropriate amount of water. Mix the Nvzhenzi powder with the paste to make pills. Take 9g per dose, twice a day.

[Clinical Application]

1. This prescription is commonly used for liver and kidney yin excess syndrome, with the main symptoms of dizziness, insomnia with many dreams, sore and weak waist and knees, dry tongue and throat.

2. If there is softening and weakness in the lower limbs, add Niu Xi, Du Zhong, and Shu Di Huang to nourish the kidneys and strengthen the muscles and bones. If there is dizziness, blurred vision, and decreased memory, add Gui Ban and E Jiao to nourish the essence and marrow. If there is severe insomnia, add Suan Zao Ren and Bai Zi Ren to nourish the heart and calm the mind.

3. This prescription can be used to treat sexual dysfunction, hypertension, and neurasthenia caused by liver and kidney yin deficiency.
