[Alias] Wu Pao Dao Chu San, Liang Tou Cao, Wu Long Mao ("Chongqing Herbal Medicine"), Guo Jiang Long ("Shaanxi Chinese Herbal Medicine").

[Plant morphology] Cha Tian Pao, also known as: Da Mai Mei ("Zhai Yuan Fang"), Cha Tian Biao ("Gang Mu"), Duan Yang Mei, Korean Uncaria.

It is a deciduous shrub, usually 2.5-3.5 meters tall.

The stem is erect or curved into an arch shape, reddish-brown or purple-red, often covered with white powder, and has flat hooked thorns.

The leaves are compound with odd-pinnate arrangement, with petioles; there are 3-7 leaflets, mostly 5.

The terminal leaflet is larger, diamond-shaped or ovate, and the lateral leaflets are ovate, 3-6 cm long and 1.5-4 cm wide.

The apex is acute, the base is wide wedge-shaped or nearly circular, and the edges have irregular coarse sharp serrations. The underside of the leaf veins is covered with soft hairs; the stipules are linear.

The umbel inflorescence is terminal or axillary, with hairs; there are 5 sepals, lanceolate, with tail-like tips.

The outer side is covered with soft hairs; there are 5 petals, pink, inversely ovate, shorter than the sepals; stamens are numerous; pistils are numerous, with the stigma near the apex.

The aggregate fruit is small, ovoid, and turns red when ripe.

The flowering period is from April to May.

The fruiting period is from July to August.
